I
have to admit, I was not looking forward to taking this class at all at the
beginning of the semester. Mostly because I was disappointed at my having to
take it, I was sure I wouldn't have had to. But now I am more than glad to have
had to take it, because it has been an amazing learning experience for me

In
this class I have effectively engaged in the entirety of the research process. The
elements of my literature review consisted of articles that were research
papers themselves, and articles on a specific topic, like the Three-Hour Rule.
I had difficulty with my final question the entire semester. I had a basic idea
of what I wanted to talk about and research, educational television, but I had
no idea where to go from there. After looking into the general topic, I
eventually got first question, and it was hard. In the end though, I to change
it up a little bit, simply because the research I acquired wouldn’t answer the
question I wanted it to, but that’s alright, that happens in research projects.
In the end I am thoroughly satisfied with the product. In the beginning of the
research, I thought gathering textual research was the hard part. I have never
been more wrong. The idea of going out, and getting people to work with you is
great, until you realize people don’t really want to waste their time with you.
Also, it is much more difficult the get the opportunity to work with children
than I expected. I did eventually succeed though, and at the end of the project
I have done library research (online), and ran and survey and group discussions
to support my research.

Overall
my argument is about whether or not regulations that were put on children’s
television in the 1990’s have been able to keep educational shows consistent in
their quality. It took me a ling while to final realize that this was my
question. I developed the question from reading about all the regulations that
were put forth, and being curious as to whether or not they are still working. This
argument is important because anything involved with a child’s education should
be the most important discussion overall. Yes, it’s T.V. but some of the shows
are exceptional in what they are teaching children and must be paid attention
to so that they don’t turn bad, and rot the child’s mind. You may argue that
most kids don’t want to watch educational television, so why bother? I say that
maybe one day they do, or the parents actually take control of what their child
is watching for a change, what are you going to do if there is nothing appropriate
for your child to watch? Sit them down to hours of SpongeBob? Even I don’t want
to watch that show. All I am trying to say is that even though it’s television,
it is an important tool in furthering a child’s education and it should not be
wasted.

I
am terrible at proofreading and editing my own material. Not because I am too
easy on myself though, I am much too hard on myself. Sometimes I might as well
just start completely over. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. I am
very thankful I have had people to look over my drafts from time to time to
give me some assistance. My paper would not be would it is now if not for peer
reviews. As the class went on though, and I started getting into the habit of
not being so harsh on myself, by working on reviewing others work, I have been
able to successfully review and edit my own final draft.
Overall
this class has been my most beneficial of the semester. I learned so much,
specifically though, how to write this fantastic paper. It has not been easy, that’s
for sure, but I know I would not have gotten the same experience from any other
class. My paper was quite difficult to write when it got down to the analysis,
I only wish I had more time, as I suppose everyone does, to do more research,
(so long as I get someone else to do those painful transcriptions).
